The OTC Marketing Awards consist of two different type of Awards, there are the ‘Principal Awards’, these are free to enter and do not require any supporting materials. There are the ‘Entered Awards’, there is a fee to enter these categories (£99+VAT) and entrants are required to submit a full entry along with supporting materials.

There are four different judging panels: Super Retail, Industry Executive, Grocery Retail, Expert.

In all instances, results from the judges for each Award are combined to determine any highly-commended candidates, runners-up and, of course, the winner.

Super Retail Panel

The Super Retail Panel of judges was drawn from multiple and independent retailers and drew upon their experiences in retail. Panel members were presented with a shortlist of contenders drawn up by OTC bulletin.

There are 12 judges on this panel and all of the judges review all the Principal categories which are:

- OTC Company of the Year 
- OTC Brand Revitalisation of the Year
- OTC Brand of the Year   
 - Best OTC Pharmacy Salesforce
- OTC Launch of the Year  


Industry Executive Panel

The Industry Executive Panel was drawn from executives in the UK OTC industry. Judges on the panel were presented with a shortlist of 10 multiple retailers drawn up by OTC bulletin and judged the entries based on their experience during 2017.

There are 12 judges on this panel and all of the judges review the following categories, which is a principal Award:
- Best OTC Multiple Retailer of the Year

Grocery Retail Panel

The Grocery Retail Panel consists of a number of experienced representatives of the grocery sector. They were presented with a shortlist of general-sale brands drawn up by HBW Insight.

There are 4 judges on this panel and all of the judges review the following categories, which is a principal Award:

- Best OTC Performer Outside Pharmacy

Expert Judging Panel

The Expert Judging Panel was drawn from independent experts’ experience in the disciplines involved and/or knowledge about the OTC market. For each Award, six judges on the panel were presented with entries submitted by companies and/or their agencies.

There are 40 judges on this panel. 6 Judges review each category. This panel judge these ‘Entered’ categories:

 - Best Big Budget OTC Marketing Campaign  - Best OTC Trade Advertising & Support Package
 - Best OTC Audio-Visual Advertising   
 - Best Small Budget OTC Marketing Campaign
 - Best OTC Digital & Mobile Marketing Campaign                               - Best OTC Social Media Campaign
 - Best OTC Consumer Advertising in the Press or Out-of-Home  - Most Innovative New OTC Product
 - Best OTC Public Relations Campaign for a Medicine  - Best New OTC Packaging Design
 - Best OTC Public Relations Campaign for a Non-Medicine  - Best OTC Pharmacy Training
