Germany's food supplements market was given an 8% sales value boost by the coronavirus pandemic in the first half of the year, according to the latest data from IQVIA.

Accelerating a long-term trend towards expansion, IQVIA also finds that the online channel in particular is a fast growing sector of this market.

Looking back at 2019, IQVIA identifies various microtrends, for example an increased demand for supplements for urogenital health, vitamins and minerals and probiotics.

Within the VMS category - which, as a whole, grew by 7% - vitamins A & D and pure vitamin B supplements saw the fastest growth in 2019, IQVIA reports, with sales increasing in both sub-categories by double digits.
